This beautiful and fully reformed village house is located in the Costa Tropical village of Haza del Trigo, a short distance from La Mamola and Castell de Ferro and the beautiful beaches that make this area so popular.

The property is within a short stroll of a shop selling daily essentials and a great bar/restaurant offering delicious tapas.

The village lies within the Sierra de Contraviesa and has views up to Haza del Lino (1,280 meters above sea level) and down to the Mediterranean Sea and across to Morocco. On a clear winter day you can see the Riff mountains of coastal Morocco.

The house is south facing and enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, mountains and sea.

The house was originally part of the village school and was divided into three parts, this being the south facing section with the best of the sea views!  Given the age of the property, there is masses of charm and traditional features however, the house was fully reformed by the current owner with new roof, new flooring, new staircase and whilst the traditional features have been retained, this is a comfortable year-round home.

The house itself is set across two main floors (72M2) and the roof terrace of 36M2 – the ground floor is open plan, one side being the fitted kitchen and diner and the other a large living room area with a wood burning stove for heating. The room is light and bright with dual aspect windows and is presented beautifully.

A further store room is perfect for chairs and cushions. There are also many plants on the terrace with a watering system that provides plants with water once a day.

Parking is never an issue with the owners normally able to park right outside the property but there is always space within a minute or two of the property.

The property would make the perfect “lock and leave” holiday home – being located within the village, it is just a short stroll to the local shop and bar/restaurant but being so close to the coastal motorway, this is the perfect location for exploring the whole of the Costa Tropical.

The current owners have rented the house in July and August and this can generate €350 per week and this is a great way to cover the costs of ownership. It is also a great way to enjoy the property, allow use of friends and family but take paying guests when wanted.

The owners have someone local who can deal with cleaning or “meeting and greeting” if needed.

Haza del Trigo, the Costa Tropical and the Granada Province…

The property is located in the village of Haza del Trigo which has a few amenities in the shape of a local shop with daily essentials and a bar/restaurant which serves up excellent tapas.

The village has a charming church, plenty of parking for visitors and the plaza in front of the property is surrounded by fruit trees and plants. The garden surrounding the plaza has rosemary bushes, lemon, avocado, banana, mango, natal plum and pomegranate trees.

The production of fruit and vegetables gives the area its name of the Costa Tropical with many fruits picked here most months of the year.

The village is well placed to enjoy everything the Costa Tropical has to offer – from Monday to Friday there is a free bus service that leaves the village at 8am and returns at 11am.  Being less than 5 mins from the coastal motorway, it makes exploring the towns and beaches of the area easy!

Markets for fresh fruit and veg: Thursdays in La Mamola and Saturdays in Castell de Ferro. On Tuesdays and Fridays there is a huge open-air market in Motril. Bread is delivered to the village every day and a fish van comes around 4 times a week.

There are always ongoing complementary Spanish classes in La Mamola.

Our nearest villages/towns: La Mamola and Castell de Ferro both contain all the necessaries such as banks, bars shops and restaurants. The nearest city is Motril, 15 minutes drive. Granada and Almeria have airports that are an easy hour’s drive away. Malaga airport is 1 hour and 10 minutes. There are bus services all along the coast. The bus fare from Malaga to La Mamola is only 8 euros. The ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is 1 hour and 20 minutes drive.

There are numerous fabulous walks in the Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada. When it’s cooled down after the summer, this is where we often go at the weekends. The Rio Chillar in Nerja and the Rio Monachil and Rio Verde in Otiva are my favourite river walks. The Cabo de Gato in Almeria is a stunning national park, as is Mini Hollywood in Las Tabernas (the exotic studios for many a Hollywood film) is a fun day out. The villages of the Alpujarras – Pamparliea, Bubion, Trevelez, Capileria – are all fun to visit and explore local artisanal products.

The local beaches (playas) are in La Mamola, El Lance and Castell de Ferro, all under 10 minutes drive; Calahonda and Playa Granada, 15 and 20 minutes drive; Nerja, in the Costa del Sol, is 40 minutes drive. My favourite beach is Calahonda with it’s all year round beach bars and snorkelling. It’s the most stunning beach along the coast.

Summary

This is a charming traditional village home which has been reformed to create a comfortable home for new owners. The village benefits from a shop and bar but you are also close to many of the resort towns and beaches that have made this are so popular.

The village environment offers the tranquillity of an enchanted house in the mountains and easy access via the motorway to all the places mentioned above.
