Many country properties in the Orgiva area are ‘off-grid’ entirely, or at least only have well water. Living off-grid sounds romantic, but this can quickly become very demanding and draining. Then try selling an off-grid property once you have bought it, this can be extremely challenging! Turning a tap and having mains water, flicking a switch for mains electricity and a land-line phone connected where low cost overseas calls can be arranged plus Broadband Internet (with a fast speed) is very comfortable.
The key to success if rural tourism is the dream
If this property is required to make money from rural tourism, the configuration of the property could not be better, nor the close proximity to Orgiva, or the mains services with WiFi (even at the pool and in all parts of the garden). This is what discerning tourists expect today!
Both the main house, separate guest cottage and pool are on the same plot of land yet quite separate.
Both properties offer a spacious and comfortable home, ideal for visiting family and friends or for paying guests on a short-term holiday let or longer-term rental.
Both the main house and separate guest cottage have been rented out on a long-term basis and equally on a holiday letting basis.
Communications
The main house, separate guest cottage, pool area and gardens all have Broadband Internet with speed enough to stream television.
A land-line for a telephones is connected to both the main house and separate guest cottage. However, currently the contract with Telefonica is ‘on hold’ because the tenants renting do not require a land-line phone.
Satellite TV is also connected and the dish can be re-aligned to reach the TV channels of many European countries. For example, British Sky TV can be reached as it is, as long as the buyer has a Sky box and card.
The Main House
The accommodation comprises of four spacious double bedrooms and a family shower room. The living accommodation comprises a living/kitchen/dining area with arches defining the spaces. The largest bedroom opens onto a private terrace/patio yet if preferred, this room could become a writers retreat, hobby room or artist’s studio with views across the garden.
There is a spacious outdoor south facing terrace/patio to the front of the house with magnificent views to the Sierra Lujar mountains. The canopy of the terrace mainly consists of grapevines, with other flowering plants surrounding it.
An array of bright and colourful flowering shrubs and plants surround the terrace/patio and flow into the garden. The gardens are laid to lawn with plenty of olive and orange trees.
The house is connected to mains electricity, water and sewage. Broadband Internet is connected, satellite TV dish is connected. A land-line phone contract can be reinstated as desired.
The Cottage
Separate and independent from the main house, the cottage comprises a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and shower room. There is an open plan kitchen/living/dining area.
The cottage opens onto a south facing terrace with magnificent views to the mountains. Depending on the season, the terrace has a canopy of wisteria, grape vines and rambling rose.
An array of bright and colourful flowering shrubs are planted around the terrace/patio as well as in the garden. Again, the garden is laid to lawn with olive and orange trees.
Paths and pedestrian gates separate or connect (as desired), the cottage from the main house.
The cottage is connected to mains services, the same as the main house, except for the satellite TV.
The Swimming Pool
The pool is an attractive feature of this property which has been thoughtfully and attractively designed and is enclosed by ochre coloured walls with a gate and steps leading up to it.
The pool and terrace which are elevated, offer you magnificent views of the mountains and surrounding countryside.
There is underwater lighting in the swimming pool and the terrace around the pool can also be illuminated at night. There is a pump room below the pool that houses the pool pump and the washing machine. Adjoining the pump house/laundry room, is an additional small store room ideal for storing parasols, lilos and pool related items during the winter months.
The Land and Gardens
This charming home is nestled in a country setting, surrounded by olive, orange, mandarin and lemon trees, avocado, chirimoya (custard apple), figs, nisperos, grape vines, almond and other fruit trees. Also, flowering shrubs give colour year round. Wherever you are on the land, in the garden or on a terrace, breathtaking vistas surround you.
The gardens on the upper terrace where both the house and separate cottage are positioned, the garden is thoughtfully landscaped with good sized lawns and a variety of flowering shrubs, plants and stone walls.
There is also ample space to grow your own vegetables and herbs.
The large lower terrace is principally an orange and olive grove and there is plenty of space to erect yurts, ideal for glamorous camping to extend the rural tourism option.
This land is fertile and verdant due to its location and has an abundant supply of irrigation water fed by the system of acequias (water channels), which were introduced by the Moors when they occupied Granada and the Alpujarra region.
The entire property is fenced with jasmine and honeysuckle and other climbers and ramblers. There are two separate access points to the property both with secure metal gates with locks.
Outbuildings/Sheds
There is a large shed for storage (once the children’s playhouse). Plus a three sided outbuilding that offers many uses, perhaps a workshop (or fill in the fourth side and create another store room). Then of course there is the lockable solid outbuilding ideal for many uses.
Free mountain water once per week
This is a historic tradition in the area and once per week the property has 2 hours of free mountain water for use in the garden or to top up the pool. The choice is yours as to what you use it for. If you wish to grow vegetables, it would be possible to fill a large water deposit for use once the supply has stopped. Of course the garden flourishes year round with spring water rather than treated tap water at hand even in the hottest months.
