Summary

This charming 2 bedroom and 1.5 bathroom hamlet home of 77M2, has an uninterrupted sea view for as far as the eye can see. It started life as part of one large working Cortijo on the highly fertile Costa Tropical.  The Cortijo was converted into a hamlet of eight individual homes to create, Los Hurguneros.  This character home dates back a long way (to which date exactly is unclear), however it has beamed ceilings, thick walls, painted floor tiles, a typical Andalucian layout that flows up and down with the gradient of the land and it has a cosy feel inside, yet an open aspect to the South and North outside, and of course, amazing sea and mountain views!

The current artist’s studio on the first floor with w.c. & wash basin would be ideal as a double bedroom with en-suite for guests.  It is accessed via a short external staircase and would give guests some independence.

Los Hurguneros is reached from the coast at the villages of Casarones and Castillo de Banos via a 5 minute journey on the dry river bed of La Rambla.  A 4 x 4 vehicle is not needed, the current owners drive a mini!  Whoever buys this property will need to embrace the horticulture that surrounds the property.  This fertile, rural land is covered by thousands of poly tunnels that produce fabulous fruit and vegetables year round that makes Spain virtually completely self sufficient in fruit and vegetables 365 days per year (and you will receive frequent fruit and veg gifts from the neighbours!).  The temperature here in this micro climate, even in winter, rarely dips below 18C and there are on average 320 days of sun!

The popular coastal town of Castell de Ferro is 10 mins’ drive away and has all the amenities you need, including a pristine beach and weekly market alongside; the standard medical centre, shops, bars & restaurants, schools etc.

About the property

This unique home is terraced (like a traditional village house) with neighbours attached either side and has various outside spaces.  The sea view terraces of 20M2 are particularly special because of the panoramic sea and mountain views.

The 8 homes that form the hamlet have residents/neighbours that are mostly Spanish with a few Europeans mixed in.  Many are full time residents and others use their homes as holiday accommodation.

The property is ideal for a couple who like a quirky layout in a home because there are stairs rising and falling into different rooms throughout the home.  It is ideal for a couple who appreciate an agricultural setting who have guests to stay from time to time.  Equally a small family could enjoy this property, or it is the perfect holiday home.  If you have a particular hobby or artistic skills, the artist’s studio on the first floor is ideal for this!

Bedroom 1 is a good size double bedroom with beamed ceiling and character features on the first floor, accessible from the living room.

Bedroom 2 is on the first floor (accessed via a short external staircase outside the back door) and currently it is an artist’s studio/jewellery workshop measuring 3.4m x 2.5M (with a double sofa-bed).  However, with a w.c. and wash basin in the corner, this would make an ideal guest bedroom with en-suite.  This room has four windows and far reaching views of the sea and the various mountain ranges.  A wood and iron studded stable door locks this room from the rest of the property.

Kitchen/dining room is typically Andalucian in style with built-in cupboards that recess into the thick walls and colourful painted base units below a work surface.  The other end of the kitchen is a spacious dining room also used as an office by the current owners.

The living room is cosy and has a wood burning stove, soft seating and a day bed.

The second reception room, currently known as the, ‘music room’ is ideal for many uses and would equally make an ideal home office, library or child’s bedroom.

Bathroom is large and reached via a few stairs on the ground floor.  It houses a walk-in shower, a full length bath, a w.c. and vanity unit, a water heater and large storage cupboard.

Communications:

Internet is connected & very reliable (the current owner works from home running a UK Consultancy business).

Telephone is via a land line.

Parking

Everyone in the village has their ‘place’ and it works very well.  It is not possible to drive up to the front of the property but parking is in the street, 3 houses away, or at the other end of the village, as you choose.

Additional outside space for a garden

A 3M x 2.4M flat area of land, beyond the paved terrace that then slopes away, could be fenced and used if desired as a garden or veg plot. It is currently gravelled and planted with aloe vera, succulents, yukka and a grape vine.

Location to coastal towns

Castell de Ferro is the largest town with all amenities you could require and that is a 10 mins’ drive away and has an immaculately maintained beach.  Here you will find bars, restaurants, bakeries, a large Dia supermarket, shops of all kinds, medical centre, dentist, hairdressers, hotels/hostals and pharmacy.

La Mamola is also 10 mins’ drive away and it equally has the same amenities as Castell de Ferro but on a smaller scale.

Casarones and Castillo de Banos are closer, just 5 mins’ drive away and they have beaches, a campsite with shop and swimming pool, bars and a small supermarket. El Lance is equally close with a beautiful beach.

Location inland to Rubite

Rubite is 20 mins’ drive away and this is the municipality that Hurguneros comes under.  This is where the town hall is located and many amenities within the town.  However, the location of the property feels more connected to the coastal strip than it does to Rubite.  (The town hall conveniently has a second office in Casarones that opens a few hours a week).

If you prefer a concrete drive to the house this is available to you

A concrete road will take you down to the coast (towards Castell de Ferro) but it is a longer route than taking the dry river bed which is just 5 mins’ drive.  However, if you do not want to rely on a 4 x 4 vehicle for use during the rare days where there is rain and the river flows, you can take the concrete road and longer route.

The house is close to the A7/E15 motorway, exit 359, where you can access:

Granada is 50 mins’ drive (the Alhambra, Sierra Nevada ski resort, Granada airport etc.),

The white-washed villages of the Alpujarras including Orgiva in 40 minutes,

Motril (the nearest large town – many shops, large supermarkets etc.) in 20 minutes,

Malaga city and its airport in 80 minutes,

Almeria and its airport in 50 minutes
