This charming country home is located a short drive from the village of Santa Catarina which is, in turn, between Tavira and Faro, Portugal. The beautiful home offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life without being isolated. Santa Catarina

Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo is a traditional Portuguese village, very welcoming to foreigners. There are schools, both infant and junior, a health centre, bank, shops, simple cafes and restaurants including one main cafe in the centre that is a meeting place for Portuguese and expats alike.

The village has two olive presses which is a reflection of the agricultural heritage of the area and an agricultural centre in the village itself.

The village is 7km from the house and is easily accessed via a newly tarmacced road and a 2km track which is kept in good condition and is always passable.

There are a number of routes to the village by car and foot. By foot: 40 minutes leisurely pace; by car: 10 minutes. Public transport from the village to nearby towns (not frequent, mostly based around secondary school times).

As well as being 10 minutes’ drive from Santa Catarina, the property is roughly equidistant from three local towns: picturesque, historic Tavira on the coast; the bustling and vibrant fishing port of Olhão; and the very pretty and useful inland town of São Brás. It’s 30 to 40 minutes’ drive to each of these useful locations.

The beaches are around half an hour away: those at Santa Luzia are particular favourites. From Olhão, on the Ria Formosa, ferries leave for the sandbar islands of Culatra and Armona, with their contrasting lagoon and Atlantic beaches.

This is a delightful area to explore and whilst the property itself is well placed to enjoy a relaxed and tranquil life, the option for more life, culture and amenities are never far away.
