This stunning country home will appeal to anyone who wants to enjoy a peaceful and unspoilt environment and if an off-grid Eco lifestyle is appealing you may have found the perfect property.
Eco and off-grid living often conjure up an image of ramshackle buildings and a lack of comfort but this large 3-bedroom farmhouse is finished to a high standard and would make a comfortable year round home for anyone.
The views are breath taking and being set within land of 29,000M2 (over 7 acres), the seclusion is a delight. The land is well planted with a mix of olive trees and almonds which can be harvested for personal use, creating your own olive oil or to be sold to the local cooperative. Selective pruning around the land also provide sufficient wood for the colder months and help to keep costs down.
The property is located within the Sierra Los Guajares natural park and being located off grid, is not for everyone – the property is around an hour from the coastal resort of Almunecar and the coastal motorway. However, the local area and the house itself offer a level of peace and tranquillity that will be hard to beat. This is not a location where you can nip out for a pint of milk and some of the access is via unmade roads but it is not isolated – the local village of Guajar Alto has a range of local facilities and is just a 15min drive away.
The house offers a degree of flexibility and opportunity – the main house comes with three bedrooms and unlike many Spanish homes, is set across two floors. In addition, there is a detached wooden chalet which is ideal for guests. This has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is self-contained with its own living room, kitchen and outside space.
There is a 100M2 stone built barn or animal corral and this can be used for any number of uses – it is unlikely to get permission for residential use but it could easily become a workshop, hobby space or some form of communal area for gatherings, a retreat space or yoga centre.
The accommodation…
The main house offers 161M2 of space set across two floors with 3 double bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The largest bedroom has 3m built in wardrobes, and the two other bedrooms have storage.
On the ground floor is a large open plan living and dining space with a wood burning stove and terrific southerly views. Beams in the ceiling and wooden window lintels add character and charm to the property but this is a generous open plan space and doesn’t feel oppressive. A separate kitchen is well fitted with lots of storage units and a 7-ring range cooker, double oven and space for the usual appliances. There is an entrance porch and a cloakroom for guests.
There is a huge front, south facing terrace for the main house which gives plenty of space for relaxing or alfresco dining taking in the amazing panoramic views. The terrace is the full width of the house and around 7m is shaded with wicker.
The wooden chalet guest house is 38M2 in size and is self-contained with a living room, fitted kitchen with gas cooker and water heater. The log cabin comes with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with shower only. Outside there is a terrace area ideal for relaxing and enjoying the peace on offer.
A useful storeroom (21M2) has electric and is an ideal place for storing tools or garden furniture. It can also work well as an area for pets or animals as it benefits from a 12m x 4m fenced area with access gate.
Stone built barn or animal corral (100M2) offers great potential for future owners. This is unlikely to get permission for residential usage but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used for a number of other purposes. Whether you want to create a large workshop, hobby space or create a venue for group activities, this would make an ideal space and if you want to become self-sufficient, it can be used in its original form as an animal corral.
