This stunning country home will appeal to anyone who wants to enjoy a peaceful and unspoilt environment and if an off-grid Eco lifestyle is appealing you may have found the perfect property.

Eco and off-grid living often conjure up an image of ramshackle buildings and a lack of comfort but this large 3-bedroom farmhouse is finished to a high standard and would make a comfortable year round home for anyone.

The views are breath taking and being set within land of 29,000M2 (over 7 acres), the seclusion is a delight.  The land is well planted with a mix of olive trees and almonds which can be harvested for personal use, creating your own olive oil or to be sold to the local cooperative. Selective pruning around the land also provide sufficient wood for the colder months and help to keep costs down.

The property is located within the Sierra Los Guajares natural park and being located off grid, is not for everyone – the property is around an hour from the coastal resort of Almunecar and the coastal motorway.  However, the local area and the house itself offer a level of peace and tranquillity that will be hard to beat.  This is not a location where you can nip out for a pint of milk and some of the access is via unmade roads but it is not isolated – the local village of Guajar Alto has a range of local facilities and is just a 15min drive away.

The house offers a degree of flexibility and opportunity – the main house comes with three bedrooms and unlike many Spanish homes, is set across two floors.  In addition, there is a detached wooden chalet which is ideal for guests. This has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is self-contained with its own living room, kitchen and outside space.

There is a 100M2 stone built barn or animal corral and this can be used for any number of uses – it is unlikely to get permission for residential use but it could easily become a workshop, hobby space or some form of communal area for gatherings, a retreat space or yoga centre.

The accommodation…

The main house offers 161M2 of space set across two floors with 3 double bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The largest bedroom has 3m built in wardrobes, and the two other bedrooms have storage.

On the ground floor is a large open plan living and dining space with a wood burning stove and terrific southerly views.  Beams in the ceiling and wooden window lintels add character and charm to the property but this is a generous open plan space and doesn’t feel oppressive.  A separate kitchen is well fitted with lots of storage units and a 7-ring range cooker, double oven and space for the usual appliances. There is an entrance porch and a cloakroom for guests.

There is a huge front, south facing terrace for the main house which gives plenty of space for relaxing or alfresco dining taking in the amazing panoramic views. The terrace is the full width of the house and around 7m is shaded with wicker.

The wooden chalet guest house is 38M2 in size and is self-contained with a living room, fitted kitchen with gas cooker and water heater. The log cabin comes with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with shower only.  Outside there is a terrace area ideal for relaxing and enjoying the peace on offer.

A useful storeroom (21M2) has electric and is an ideal place for storing tools or garden furniture. It can also work well as an area for pets or animals as it benefits from a 12m x 4m fenced area with access gate.

Stone built barn or animal corral (100M2) offers great potential for future owners.  This is unlikely to get permission for residential usage but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used for a number of other purposes.  Whether you want to create a large workshop, hobby space or create a venue for group activities, this would make an ideal space and if you want to become self-sufficient, it can be used in its original form as an animal corral.

This property will appeal to people wanting to create a self-sufficient lifestyle, those that want to live off-grid and those that want to leave as little a carbon footprint on the world as possible. However, this does not mean you can’t enjoy a comfortable life and below are our key reasons we feel this property will appeal to many buyers…

The Solar system is a 2.5kw solar panel system with solar battery storage. As a back up, there is a 5kw generator and high smp solar battery charger. The system runs the usual appliances in the kitchen such as fridges and freezers, the washing machine, TV system, Internet, vacuum and all lighting.

Water is provided by a stream which runs alongside the property and feeds into a water deposit which holds around 30,000 litres for use on the land and gardens.  A separate 2,500 litre deposit is used for domestic use (both the main house and the guest house) and this is fed by spring located on the land.

Land and gardens

The property is set within land of 29,000M2 and is a mix of almond trees and olives. There are around 200 olive trees and 150 almonds and

Around the house itself are more formal gardens with a lovely range of indigenous plants and several terrace spaces from which you can enjoy the views and relax in the peace and beauty of the area.

Steps lead down to a lovely 10.5m x 4m swimming pool with sun terrace and mature Mediterranean beds of palms and yuccas.

A large Alberca (water deposit) holds approximately 30,000 litres of water, ideal for use around the property.

A wooden shed is ideal for storing items and a small tool shed 3.5m x 2.5m helps to keep things tidy around the property.

A huge dog or pet enclosure measures 26m x 8m and is enclosed by 2m high metal fencing and metal gate.

Guájar-Alto and the Costa Tropical…

It is easy to think that this property is isolated but the property is just 15mins from the local village which offers a number of amenities including a bar, restaurant, shop and doctor.

Access to the Costa Tropical is good – Guajar Alto is 30 minutes from the beach at Salobrena, 40 minutes from the beach at Almunecar, 90 minutes from Malaga, and 50 minutes from the ancient city of Granada, the Sierra Nevada mountains and ski resort.
