The Eco lifestyle and self sufficiency

A large 5.2kw solar and wind turbine set-up that is a 48v system with 24 batteries of 2v each. This provides the energy for all the usual appliances including the swimming pool. There is a generator which starts automatically if ever needed.

The water supply is from a deep well (110m) which is a plentiful supply of water as Yunquera is the source of the Rio Grande.  This is a private water supply and the well is registered.

There are currently 2 x 2,000 litre storage tanks which serve the house.  A further 2,000 litre tank is also used for irrigation although this is not necessary for the current trees (but would be helpful for bringing on a fabulous kitchen garden).

The land area really does allow for the creation of a self-sufficient lifestyle with plenty of room for home grown fruit and vegetables.  The current orchard and olive grove could easily be added to in the future.

Living with a low carbon footprint is a real opportunity here but you don’t have to feel isolated or disconnected from village life.  The vibrant village close by is easy to integrate into because it is so welcoming.  A number of neighbours also live an Eco life with animals and off grid properties.

Yunquera and the Sierra de las Nieves National Park

Yunquera is a large village with almost 3,000 inhabitants and this brings a wide range of services, shops and facilities with it.  As with most Andalucian villages, there are regular festivals and fiestas and a weekly produce market.

The village has a range of bars, restaurants, shops, banks and a doctors surgery.

The Sierra de las Nieves National Park is perfect for bird watching, walking, mountain biking, horse riding, climbing, the following of nature trails and enjoyment of the flora and fauna. Because of the fact there is very little light pollution the area, stargazing is popular. The Torre Vigia does have an Observatory and information centre for anyone interested in studying the night skies.

Yunquera is a village with lots of life throughout the year and is welcoming of newcomers and is surrounded by beauty.


Malaga airport is reached in around one hour.
