For sale direct from the owners!
This historic country cortijo has origins as far back as 1600 and having been totally refurbished in 2019, it really does offer the best of both worlds – the charm of the old and modern comforts throughout.
This large family home can be used in a multitude of ways in the future -a comfortable family home with sufficient space and separation for extended families or to create income from paying guests. The owners have created their own 2 bedroom apartment so they can live comfortably whilst accommodating guests in the remaining 6 bedrooms. This level of separation can also work in reverse with a family occupying the larger portion of the property and extended family utilizing the apartment. There is also scope for creating further units for rental within the Moroccan style pool house or by dividing some of the existing accommodation in the main house.
Whatever you want to do with the property in the future, one thing is guaranteed – privacy! The house is set within a high walled courtyard garden surrounded by olives groves and 5 acres of land. Perfect for owners and guests that want seclusion and peace. However, the house is not isolated – just 10mins to Antequera with good access to the A45 motorway and less than an hour to Malaga airport, this impressive home really does have the best of both worlds.
The home has been refurbished by the current owners to retain the charm and character of an historic building but they have introduced contemporary features and modern comforts to ensure that life at Cortijo Las Piletas is one to enjoy.

The layout of the property…
The focus is on flexibility – this home can work for any number of uses if it is wanted as a large family home or as a home and business. The important feature is the separation of a 2 bedroom apartment for the owners which allows them to enjoy their home at the same time as renting the remainder of the house for as much as €500 per night.
The house retains much of the charm and character from its historic past and the owners have been careful to create open spaces for living which are a joy to behold. Set across two floors with around 1.000M2 on each floor, the rooms are generous and there is a great deal of flexibility on how they are used.
On the ground floor is a huge kitchen which has a beamed ceiling, a large open fireplace and plenty of space for dining and the traditional Andaluz kitchen. There is sufficient space for a soft seating area and the kitchen is fitted with the usual appliances. A further pantry is ideal for the cook in your life and there is access to the courtyard gardens.
A separate formal dining room has a stunning barrel-vaulted ceiling and can easily accommodate large gatherings.
There are two adjoining living rooms, both very generous in size and both with feature fireplaces. One comes with a barrel-vaulted ceiling and the other comes with a beamed ceiling adding to the charm and character. Both living rooms have their own characteristics, but both are light and bright and spacious.
On the ground floor there are also 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus a modern fitted kitchen which falls within the owner’s apartment.
Additional rooms include a further pantry, laundry room and storage rooms, one of which house all the guest linen etc.
A large garage and workshop space is accessed from the outside.
On the first floor there is a large open landing leading to seven very generous bedrooms and six bathrooms. The master bedroom comes with an en-suite bathroom, lavishly refurbished in a contemporary style and this room also benefits from a separate sitting room.
All of the bedrooms have far reaching views, many come with built in wardrobes, some with beamed ceilings and all have been beautifully decorated in a modern style.
The owner’s apartment and separate accommodation…
The owner’s apartment gives great flexibility in terms of how the house is used – on the ground floor it has a modern fitted kitchen, a large utility room and toilet.
On the upper floor it has a large living room with views to the mountains, a large family bathroom and two bedrooms. Access to the remainder of the house is via a corridor with lockable door.
The main house comprises one twin bedroom on the ground floor near the kitchen which has an en-suite shower room.
On the first floor, there are 5 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms
Outside space…
Life in Spain often revolves around being outside and this property has an abundance of outside space to enjoy all through the day, at different times of year and all set within the high walled courtyard garden so complete privacy is guaranteed.
The property is entered via original traditional wooden doors into the courtyard gardens. This area is incredibly low maintenance with paved areas and raised borders with a mix of citrus trees, palms, planted borders and various patio areas to be enjoyed in the shade or in the sunshine on a cooler winter’s day.
The upper level of courtyard garden is adjacent to the house and there is a lower level which is the pool area. This is accessed through traditional wooden doors ensuring privacy between those enjoying the pool and those relaxing in the upper courtyard garden.
The pool measures 16.5M x 3.5M and has plenty of space around it for sunbathing.
A pool building is perfect for all manner of uses – it comes with a bathroom, a fireplace and is large enough to be converted into further accommodation if required. As it stands, it works perfectly as a relaxing space for those wanting to escape the sun and it can be used for indoor dining. This area is perfect for larger gatherings and parties.
A large covered Moroccan terrace is the perfect place to chat and relax with shade and this space could also be adapted for other uses.
Land and gardens
The cortijo sits on a plot of more than 20,000M2 of land with around 250 productive olive trees. These generate a harvest of more than 5,000kg of olives each season. This harvest can be sent to the local cooperatives but creating your own olive oil is more than a pipe dream. Local mills can process your harvest and you could easily generate an annual supply of 1,000 litres of olive oil.
This land does not need too much attention and if a relaxed lifestyle is wanted, many locals will happily look after the olives and deal with harvesting etc.
The location of this property means you have little light pollution and the stars at night can be a delight.
The surrounding farmland is well tended and will change your views throughout the year.
Antequera
Known as the Crossroads of Andalucía, this historic city has masses to offer – prehistoric burial mounds, Roman remains, fabulous architecture and more churches per head of population than anywhere else in Spain! Its location north of Malaga and with easy train and motorway access to Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba, the area is thriving with a bustling city centre and a growing infrastructure for future investment.
This city has a huge array of shopping options from boutique shops through to commercial centres with cinema. Bars and restaurants range from cheap tapas bars through to high quality dining options. Sporting facilities are used by teams at national and International level and there are a wide range of schools, hotels, a modern hospital and a terrific business park.
The access to and from Antequera is excellent – motorway links, an AVE high-speed railway connection at Santa Ana and the eagerly awaited city centre AVE link to Granada.
Whilst the city is a hive of activity, the surrounding countryside is also a delight – the area has a rich history of agriculture with olives being one of the main sources of its wealth. The famous El Torcal Natural Park guards the city and the plains north of the city are home to the famous flamingos which migrate annually at Fuente Piedra. The area is also well known for its marble production.
Antequera is well situated for access to Malaga and the coast as well as its International airport which is less than an hour away.
