228M2 of total built area and set in 25,000M2 of land in the middle of a tranquil farming valley in the heart of the Alpujarra mountains of Andalucia.

This home is a rustic cortijo of separate buildings oozing charm with a feeling of romance about it. Comprising three full-time bedrooms and four occasional bedrooms for visiting guests.

A breathtaking drive into the valley of El Duque.  There is a journey of 20 minutes 10km from Orgiva to get to this special home with the last two kilometres being on gravel track.  It is worth the journey because of the beauty of the drive and the seclusion and breathtaking views on arrival.

If you seek outdoor living, growing your own mix of fruit and vegetables with a life that is away from the rush of modern day living, you could not ask for anything better. Located in El Duque, one of the Alpujarras most beautiful and secluded valleys where three rivers meet (Rio Trevelez, Rio Poqueira and Rio Guadalfeo) and abundant spring and irrigation water flows.

This is a more rustic way of life where ‘living’ is more important than materialism.  The neighbours of mixed nationalities and farmers are spread out around the area.  They are all very much of the same mindset.  Designer kitchens are less important than the fresh produce put on the table to be eaten for good health.

Mains electricity is connected and the house has rights (written in the title deeds) to spring water for drinking and also abundant irrigation water rights from the acequia water system for watering the olive trees.

The swimming pool is used for two purposes. Swimming in it to cool off on a hot summer’s day and also to water the land.  It is filled with spring water and used every two weeks to water fruit trees around the house.  The pool is then filled again from the fabulous natural source that is mountain water.  Pleasure meets practicality here!

Peace, space, greenery and living in the moment can be experienced here with ease.  If you are keen on yoga, writing, art or crafting hobbies, there is an independent light and bright specially designed building with floor to ceiling fly mesh that replaces glazing.  The room absorbs spectacular views down to the river below.  The wooden structure has temporary wooden doors that close it for the winter.

If you need plenty of independent bedrooms for visiting guests to use in the Spring, Summer and Autumn months (to complement the main house and separate guest cottage).  These guests will experience a step up from ‘glamping’ with some needing to use the alfresco shower building with hot and cold running water and a separate composting toilet.

The main house has a spacious kitchen with a utility room and a large living/dining room and one shower room.  There are two full-time bedrooms (one ground floor and one first floor) and two occasional bedrooms.  The first occasional bedroom has a single day bed for siestas by the owners or is used for visiting guests at night as required.  Then attached to the main house but on the first floor level of the land, is an oval, cave style bedroom, used mostly in the summer.

The separate stone cottage is located away from the main house and is a self contained dwelling with a kitchen/living/dining room, one bedroom and a shower room with w.c.

The log cabin equally has a bedroom and external shower for use in the Spring, Summer and Autumn but if it were required for another use such as a workshop, it is there!

Old stable bedroom is set up for use mostly during the Summer and comprises a comfortable single bedroom attached to a store.  When staying in this room, the alfresco shower room and composting toilet would be used.  So again, comfort and practicality meet here.

Yoga building or hobby room is a wooden structure located in a stunning setting overlooking the river below and mountains beyond.  This space is ideal for all kinds of uses from writing to crafting and more.

The land is gently terraced with 160 olive trees and many other fruit and nut trees including; almond, walnut, hazelnut, orange, lime, plum, grapefruit, mandarin, lemon, persimmon, apple, cherry, pear, apricot, fig, plum and pomegranate.  The olive harvest can be sold or pressed for organic extra virgin olive oil as desired.  The fruit and nuts go on the table!

Sound is so important for well being and here, all you will hear is the bleating of sheep and jingle of goat bells mixed with energetic bird song.  The only traffic noise you will hear is the occasional tractor being used by a farmer in the valley.

The land includes its own natural spring that is pumped to the houses for general use and for drinking water. It is also used for the sprinkler system for the land below the spring. There is irrigation water (from the acequia/water source system) that is used to water the higher terraces above the spring.

The main house and separate guest cottage are traditional Alpujarran in style constructed of thick stone walls, wooden beams and cane ceilings.

Amenities and communications includemains electricity and are WiFi connected.  There is speed enough to stream television. Heating is provided by wood burning stoves and hot water plus cooking is by gas bottles.

Main house (143,00 m2): Built over two levels with thick stone walls that are white washed inside and out.  Ground floor comprises a lounge, kitchen with a large utility area.  Bedroom 1 (twin beds), bedroom 2 (single occasional bedroom).  First floor bedroom 3 (double bed). Bedroom 4 (single bed) is independent yet attached to the house and is oval in shape at first floor level.  The toilet and shower room are attached to the main house but with an external door accessed through the covered front porch.

Guest cottage (50,30 m2):  Across one level has exposed stone on the outside and white washed walls within. Comprises a double bedroom, lounge/kitchen/dining room, shower and toilet.

Log cabin (10.5M2): Situated close to the spring and shaded by a cane pergola and olive trees. It currently accommodates a single bed and has space for seating too.  There is a shower attached with hot and cold water.  This log cabin could be used for other purposes such as a workshop, as desired.

Old stables building (19.15 m2): Built in half-crescent shape on the old threshing circle (the era where wheat was threshed from the chaff).  It is divided into three parts: a store room, a secure tool room and a single bedroom for occasional use, normally used in the summer. The bedroom uses the alfresco shower with hot and cold water and a composting toilet on the land.

Yoga building or hobby room (48 m2): An independent wooden structure with a wall of floor to ceiling fly mesh that takes in the view of the valley and river below. The open front has temporary doors that are installed during winter.

The pool is kidney shaped and filled from the natural spring and used during the summer months as a water storage facility and to also irrigate the trees around the house as well as bathing.  There is a skimming box system and pump for water circulation already installed so a complete filtration system could easily be connected.  If required, a small amount of chlorine tablets are used in a simple floater to keep the water fresh until it is emptied for watering.  Currently the pool is emptied every two weeks in the summer.

Octagonal Pergola

There is an octagonal frame structure with a slate terraced base. This is unfinished and is there for a buyer to use as they wish.  With cane added to the roof, it would make a fabulous lounging or dining area.  A place to relax and read a book and admire the view in the shade as an example.  Bougainvillea growing up and over the roof would look stunning!

The Alpujarra region of Andalucía forms the southern foothills to the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The property is 20 mins drive to the local town of Orgiva which has all the necessary amenities such as supermarkets, banks, natural food shops, building supplies, health centre etc.

Granada city centre is just over 1 hour away. Granada airport is 1 hour 20 minutes and Malaga airport is 1 hours 45 minutes away as is Malaga airport.

The beaches and towns of the Costa Tropical vary from 40 minutes to 60 minutes drive with Salobrena being the closest coastal town with a fabulous beach.

The ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is a 1 hour 30 minutes drive away.
